Strong Rock Christian School (SRCS) is committed to equipping teachers and students who will impact the world for Jesus Christ as evidenced by the academic pillar, which is overseen by Mrs. Judy Johnston. The leadership of the school ensures that academics are guided by the vision and purpose and are supported by appropriate resources and support systems. Instruction in all classrooms is provided by highly qualified and highly skilled teachers.
In addition to full-day programs for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade, the school offers half-day and full-day programs for students in three-year prekindergarten and four-year prekindergarten. Standards-based classroom instruction addresses various learning styles, higher-order thinking skills, a variety of instructional strategies, and authentic assessments. Differentiated instructional strategies are intentionally used to meet the needs of a diverse learning population. Instruction in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade is further enhanced with paraprofessionals.
A clearly defined curriculum is continuously evaluated and revised based on data. Academic achievement is measured with a broad assessment system which includes the Comprehensive Testing Program 4 (CTP4), the Stanford 10, the PSAT, SAT, and the ACT along with the Explore and the Plan. Administrators and teachers analyze and interpret data to determine the effectiveness of the curriculum and instruction. By looking at individual performance in the classroom and at standardized data, teachers create strategies for individual students as well as for small- and whole-group instruction. A variety of authentic assessments (i.e. homework, quizzes, tests, performance-based projects, labs) are used for formative and summative evaluation.
The focus on the academic pillar ensures that every aspect of academics is continuously examined and evaluated to ensure that the academic program is constantly improving. The broad umbrella of the academic pillar includes curriculum development, classroom instruction, textbook adoption, use of instructional technology, biblical worldview integration, assessment, data collection, professional learning, teacher certification, implementation of the school improvement plan, and accreditation. Strong Rock has accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and with the Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC) verifying the school is meeting clearly defined educational standards and is committed to continuous improvement. The school is also a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
A clearly-defined professional learning program, the Strong Rock Institute, and vertical teaming sessions help to ensure the prekindergarten through twelfth grade curriculum is seamless and is continuously being updated and improved. The classroom environment and instructional program provide children with opportunities to pursue spiritual as well as academic excellence and meet the needs of students as they prepare for college and life beyond SRCS, including the integration of a biblical worldview within the content being taught. Demonstrating how the academics fit into the context of God’s frame of reference gives genuine meaning and significance to learning, ensuring students are well-equipped to impact the world and thus fulfill the mission of Strong Rock Christian School.
